Baby's first Christmas

Desiree is a brand new mom to a baby girl. Fresh from the hospital, she’s navigating the initiation into parenthood and everything that goes along with it - from waiting for her milk to come in, to learning to get a proper latch...
This is going to be my daughter's first Christmas, but this holiday season marked a lot of firsts for her. She crawled for the first time during Thanksgiving at my parent's house. We were at home in Dallas when she made her first lurching attempts but by the time we arrived at my parents, she was a crawling master. I spent most of my time on the floor crawling around after her, frantically moving all the power cords out of reach. I became a pro at scooping her up before she reached the stairs, much to her delight. She thought it was all a game and her laughter put smiles on everyone's faces.
My dad also taught her how to do patty-cake for the first time. This was the first thing that I could tell she actually learned. I was so impressed that she started out mimicking us and soon after all was had to do was sing the Patty-cake song and she clapped her hands together all by herself. So of course we spent our entire trip singing the Patty-cake song and exclaiming with joy every time she clapped her pudgy little hands together.
This holiday season also marked the first time we left her with a baby-sitter. My husband and I attended his company Christmas party and his co-worker offered to share her sitter with us so we could have a grown-up night out. I was super nervous and grilled the girls non-stop, making them promise to call 911 at the first sign of trouble. I gave them my number and made them call me so I'd have a way to obsessively call and check on the baby. I was every inch the neurotic first-time mom and I'm happy to say we all survived. I got to wear a fancy dress, the baby had fun with the sitters and I only called to check on them once! I'm not counting the text messages....
We are spending Christmas with Sofia's other grandparents and she's going to have her first white Christmas here. I bundled her up and we went outside to take pictures to document her very first snowball. She was such a good sport and didn't even whimper when my husband laid her down in the snow. I'm so thankful to have such an easy-going baby! She's even pulling up on Grandma and Grandpa's sofa, so I'm sure those first steps are just around the corner.
We're taking lots of pictures and eating till our bellies are stuffed and I'm going to remember this holiday season as the season of firsts for my beautiful little baby!9:00am on Thursday December 29
