Why, thank you

Desiree is a brand new mom to a baby girl. Fresh from the hospital, she’s navigating the initiation into parenthood and everything that goes along with it - from waiting for her milk to come in, to learning to get a proper latch...

This is my first holiday season as a mom.  Before I had a baby, I looked forward to going home to have my mom take care of me, if only for a long weekend.  She made breakfast and hovered in the nurturing-mom way that made me thankful that I had a place to call home.  We will still travel to my parent's house for Thanksgiving, but this time I have a child of my own.  I'm the nurturing mom and I'm bringing my own family to the dinner table.

Ask me what I'm thankful for and the first thing I'll say is my family.  I'm thankful for my daughter that she has blessed our lives with her presence and for my husband who is an amazing provider for us.  I'm thankful for my parents, that they still have their health and that they are such doting grandparents.  But you know what?  There are a few other things I'm thankful for:

Yoga pants.  Yoga pants are the greatest invention for new moms.  My favorites have a higher waist than my jeans so they hold in that post-partum extra skin.  They're also stretchy, making it so easy to play on the floor with active babies.  No snaps or zippers make them easy to pull on one-handed, as I often am these days.  Plus, wearing them gives the impression that you work out even if the only exercise you get is taking out the trash.

Breastfeeding. I'm so thankful that I'm able to breastfeed because of the convenience!  I thank my lucky stars every day that I don't have to mess with washing and sterilizing bottles, mixing and warming formula or pumping non-stop.  Wherever, whenever, I unclip my bra and we're good to go and there is nothing handier to silence a fussy baby!

Baby carriers.  I always knew I wanted to wear my baby and I did my research before she came.  Now that she's here, I wear her almost everywhere I can and it's a lifesaver.  She loves to be held and I can do so much more with her strapped to my chest!  I'm convinced there is some sort of magic woven into the threads of my Ergo because Sofia will fall asleep within minutes of being carried in it.  I clean the house, walk the dog, and it goes so much more quickly than if I didn't have my hands free.  I love it so much that I have four baby carriers and I use them all.

My journey to becoming a mother wasn't easy and there were many times I cried with frustration.  But now that I have finally crossed the threshold into the club, you won't find a more grateful babywearying, breastfeeding mom in stretchy, forgiving yoga pants.
