Sourcing Associate

Role Objective:

The Sourcing Associate has a background in global sourcing of innovative and on trend raw materials, including fabrics, yarns, trims; and has a background in textile materials and textile processing (finishing, print and dying techniques). The Sourcing Associate also has an understanding of industry QA practices and requirements as they relate to raw material sourcing and development.

The Sourcing Associate is accountable for working collaboratively with our business partners, including Design, Technical Design, QA, Purchasing and Marketing to ensure that we flawlessly execute throughout the entire product development process. This is accomplished through excellent knowledge of yarn, fabric, finishing innovation, technology and construction, excellent knowledge of raw material and garment manufacturing, a great eye, and proactive and collaborative communication with our internal cross functional partners and external vendor base.

 

Responsibilities:

  1. DEPARTMENT ADMINISTRATION
  • Track and manage projects
  • Identify issues so they can be resolved
  • Understand how Sourcing fits into the larger product development process
  • Organize and manage files associated with raw material approval, including raw material database, mill/supplier database, fabric detail sheets, etc.
  • Participate in departmental and cross-departmental meetings as appropriate
  • Understand the Stage Gate and Product Development Processes at Bravado as they relate to Product Development and Sourcing

 

  1. VENDOR ADMINISTRATION
  • Collaborate on counter sourcing projects as needed with the Design and Operations teams

 

  1. DESIGN VISION
  • Understand Design’s creative vision, including fabrication, fit intent and design details
  • Provide recommendations and inspiration for innovative new fabrics, trims, finishes and graphic/print techniques
  • Help evolve new designs in such a way as to create “signature” fabrications that become synonymous with Bravado comfort, hand and durability.

 

  1. RAW MATERIAL DEVELOPMENT AND APPROVAL
  • Understand and stay up-to-date with the research and development of new innovations regarding fabric, trim, technologies and finishes
  • Source requested raw materials, ensuring timely availability of “on spec” raw goods needed for all new prototype developments
  • Implement design vision through the sourcing process, while maintaining corporate standards
    • Identify and locate knit and woven fabrications and trims pre-season, based on Design’s requirements
    • Communicate raw materials requirements to suppliers and mills
    • Evaluate raw material submissions from external vendors to ensure they meet Design’s objectives
  • Communicate deliverables requested from the Purchasing and Quality teams including:
  • Communicating quality standards (as requested by the QA Team) to vendors and mills and filing the fabric specification sheets
  • Communicating costing, MOQ/MCQ, timing and delivery requirements (as requested by the Purchasing Team) to vendors and mills and recording applicable information on the Fabric Detail Sheet

Additional duties and responsibilities may be added or modified as required throughout the course of your employment.

 

Qualifications:

  • Degree or Diploma or equivalent in Fashion Design, Fashion Management or Textiles OR related field
  • 1-2 years raw materials sourcing experience in knits and trims
  • Lingerie or Intimate Apparel experience is an asset
  • Must work out of the Bravado Toronto Head Office

 

Technical Skills:

  • Advanced knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite
  • Intermediate knowledge of Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop
  • Must have good knowledge of yarn, fabric and garment manufacturing and finishing
