Half of one of Hollywood’s most famous and likeable sibling duos – her sister is actress and singer Zooey Deschanel – Emily is undeniably charismatic. As the leading lady on TVs Bones, she plays Dr. Temperance “Bones” Brennan, a buttoned-up anthropologist dedicated to solving crime, while in real life she brings Bones-like devotion to causes close to her heart – namely her husband, son and impending baby.
Born to a well-known family, she’s the daughter of Oscar-nominated cinematographer Caleb Deschanel and actress Mary Jo Weir. Unlike many stars, Emily graduated from Boston University before making her way into the spotlight in her first role in 1994’s It Could Happen to You. She dabbled in a smattering of television roles before appearing on the big screen in Cold Mountain and Spider-Man 2, but it’s been her turn on TVs Bones that’s garnered the biggest praise.
When not on-screen, Emily is a crusader for all things eco-friendly, preferring organic cotton, hemp or vintage clothing to mainstream versions, wearing cruelty-free makeup, and educating her three-year-old son Henry (his father is actor David Hornsby) about the importance of eating vegan. She’s also committed to making motherhood her first priority. “Right now I take [Henry] with me every day. I see him during my breaks. I’m still practicing as much attachment parenting as possible – I want to put my child first,” she said.
Style notes: The epitome of classic, Emily’s is thoroughly ladylike with or without a bump. We love that she’s reportedly a fan of both our Essential Nursing Tank and Body Silk Seamless Bra
